Common Acupuncture Questions
Does Acupuncture Hurt?
Rarely. When receiving acupuncture you might feel a slight pinching or heavy sensation, or a localized tingling that soon gives way to a feeling of deep relaxation. Most patients do not mind the needles (roughly 1/10 the size of a hypodermic) and love coming in for their treatments. The needles are 100% sterile and are disposed of after the first use.
What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is part of an ancient healing system that treats medical problems, prevents disease, promotes health and maintains well-being. By inserting ultra-thin, disposable needles into specific points on the body, the person’s own inner resources are stimulated to correct chemical and structural imbalances. Acupuncture is a safe treatment modality when practiced by a competently trained, licensed professional, and it has helped cure millions who were suffering and in pain. For those who are needle-phobic, at Blue Phoenix we also use non-needle techniques effectively.
How Does It Work?
By stimulating acupuncture points along established pathways that traverse the human body, we are able to increase oxygenation and stimulate circulation, as well as regulate the endocrine and nervous system. We also reduce, and often eliminate, pain altogether by stimulating the secretion of endorphins while blocking pain receptors.
What Can I Expect During A Treatment?
After discussing the health issues that brought you to the clinic and reviewing your health status in a comprehensive way, I will evaluate a treatment strategy and walk you through the process to allay any concerns you might have. The first treatment typically takes 1hour, with subsequent sessions lasting about forty-five minutes. Many people find acupuncture treatment painless; some experience it as a slight pinch, followed by a tingling sensation, and then heaviness or warmth traveling through the body. The pins remain in place from 20 to 40 minutes, after which most people report a feeling of deep relaxation and elevation of spirit. It’s a great way to recharge the batteries before, during, or after a challenging period.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Depending on the conditions, severity and duration of the disease, the course of treatment will vary. Chronic problems can take some time to resolve, while acute ones are often cured after several treatments. Most patients want to return and get better more quickly. At each follow-up visit, any changes in symptoms will lead to an adjustment in treatment.
Do We Take Insurance?
Currently we do not accept insurance, and will accept cash and checks. However, if you are covered for acupuncture, we can give you a ‘health insurance claim form’ as a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
How Much Does A Session Cost?
The initial consultation, intake and treatment are $ 135. Follow up visits are $90.
